Brotherhood

A Message From Our Vice President of Brotherhood

Hello Everyone!

My name is Hessel Kirk, and I am this semester’s VP of Brotherhood for the Psi Chapter of Delta Sigma Pi! I am currently a Sophomore studying Finance, and I joined the chapter during the Fall semester of 2024 alongside the amazing Alpha Epsilon pledge class.

DSP is a professional fraternity, but we also encourage and foster the ability to help you grow personally alongside your class chapter. Making these close, personal connections to others can help make a university that is so large feel a lot smaller. Once I became a part of DSP, I could feel what it meant to be alongside a close-knit group of not just club members, but also lifelong friends. As brothers continue to grow and help those around them, brotherhood becomes a fundamental part of Delta Sigma Pi. Brotherhood helps to support your growth not just personally, but professionally as well.

As the Vice President of Brotherhood, my role is to plan and organize fun, informal events that strengthen connections among brothers and bring the chapter closer together. Creating opportunities to relax, connect, and enjoy time together helps set a strong foundation for lasting relationships and shared experiences. Our chapter is filled with individuals who genuinely support one another and want to see everyone succeed. I am excited to continue building these bonds through events such as a Milwaukee Bucks game, social events, and other brotherhood activities throughout the semester.

Please feel free to reach out to me if you have any questions, ideas, or concerns regarding the Brotherhood initiative within our chapter! I am looking forward to a great semester and making new memories together!

Brotherhood Event Examples

Typically in April, we organize a fraternity wide trip to Devil’s lake where we hike, grill food by the lake, play games, and have a great time with one another. This event has been a great opportunity for brothers to build their connections with each other as we spent a full day out in the sun without the pressure of classes. Events like this give the chapter not only an opportunity to get outside and have fun with one another, but a chance to make lasting memories with the fraternity and show that we stand as not just a brotherhood but a family.

Prior to finals is when we typically plan a mental health event to prepare for the stress associated with the ending semester. During this event I plan on discussing how to be a supportive brother to friends and other DSP members who are struggling with their mental health. I focus primarily on supporting others because mental health is not something that can be solved alone, but rather needs a support structure of understanding, mental health literate friends. I want to ensure that DSP can be a community that is not afraid to stand up and help one another when we are in need. Because when we uplift one another we display the brotherhood and care that DSP stands for.
