Professionalism

A Message from Our Vice President of Professional Development

Hello everyone!

My name is Charlotte Maloney, and I’m honored to serve as this semester’s Vice President of Professional Development. My journey with DSP began in Fall 2024, when I rushed as a freshman and was fortunate to become a member during my very first semester at UW–Madison. Even early on, I knew I wanted to be part of an organization that would challenge me, support me, and help me grow both professionally and personally.

While my DSP experience has been a huge part of my growth, my passion for business actually started back in high school when I created my own sustainable lipstick and chapstick brand that used recycled wine corks as packaging. I loved the idea of combining creativity with real-world problem solving, and what started as a class entrepreneurial project quickly turned into something much bigger. I competed in multiple pitch competitions, and that experience confirmed my interest in business.

Since joining DSP, my experience has been filled with incredible friendships and meaningful opportunities. Being able to connect with brothers, attend events, and even travel to places like Chicago for company visits has been such an insightful and valuable part of my college journey. Each experience has helped me learn more about the professional world while also building relationships that I truly appreciate.

As I step into this role, I’m excited to give back to the chapter that has given me so much. I hope to plan events and opportunities that help current brothers and future pledge classes gain the same professional growth and memorable experiences that I’ve been able to have throughout my time in DSP.

Best,
Charlotte Maloney

Why do we Value Professionalism?

Delta Sigma Pi is a professional business fraternity founded in 1907 with the mission of fostering professional development among its members. The fraternity is dedicated to creating an environment where individuals can develop the skills necessary to succeed in business while building personal connections and developing a sense of community. With over 260 active chapters in the United States and Canada, Delta Sigma Pi is one of the largest professional fraternities in the world.

One of the primary goals of Delta Sigma Pi is to promote professional development among its members. The fraternity offers a variety of resources designed to help members build the skills and knowledge they need to succeed in the business world. Examples of these resources include workshops (for resume building, Linkedin, and interviewing), networking events (with companies such as EY, KPMG, Ovative Group, J.P. Morgan, Dell, Aldi, and others), guest speakers, and mentorship opportunities. Members also have access to a vast network of alumni who are established professionals in various industries and can provide valuable guidance and support.

Through these various resources, Delta Sigma Pi members develop a range of professional skills. One important skill we emphasize is networking. In the business world, building a strong network of contacts is essential for success. Members learn how to build and maintain relationships with others, both within the fraternity and outside of it. This skill is particularly valuable for those seeking internships or jobs. Another skill is communication, members learn how to effectively communicate their ideas and thoughts to others, whether in person or in writing. They learn how to actively listen and respond appropriately to others, which is critical for building relationships with clients and colleagues.

In addition to professional skills, Delta Sigma Pi members also develop important personal skills. For example, they learn how to manage their time effectively, prioritize tasks, and organize their work through involvement in leadership positions and our committees. In these committees, members also learn how to work collaboratively with others, a critical skill for any business professional.

Despite being a large, diverse group of individuals, the Deltasigs of Psi chapter are connected by our mutual passions to grow professionally!
